~ 1889 REAL ESTATE ~
On August 7, 1889 George{1842-1903} and John Duffee{1845-1913} divided their father's estate on the west side of today's Norwood. George took the upper side and John the lower side. The dividing line was about where Trites Ave. is today. The area was known as "Duffyn" or the "Four Hundreds" because a deed restriction prevented any house being built at a cost less than four thousand dollars. Sales were slow until John Duffee began building houses and selling them himself beginning in 1895. After John's death in 1913 the undeveloped property was sold and the Duffee Family moved away.
